LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Members and Friends,

The month of July witnessed a tangible increase in Arab tourism, which was clearly evident in the Kingdom’s streets, cafes, restaurants, shopping centers, recreational centers, and touristic sites.

This increase is a continuation of the remarkable numbers we have seen in the first half of the year. Total visitor numbers were up 24% to more than 3.6 million compared with the same period in 2009, while overnight visitors were up 31% to just over 2 million.

Tourism receipts were also up. The first half of the year saw total receipts reach JD1.089 billion, which represents a 28% increase over the same period in 2009.

The interesting part of the receipts analysis is that JD171 million of those came from visitors from the Arabian Gulf countries, which have risen by 18%.

We are confident that our attention to Arab tourism, particularly in the Gulf, which has started in 2008 is paying off.

We believe that this will further manifest itself during the fasting month of Ramadan, which offers Arab visitors the chance to enjoy the spirituality of the holy month and the excitement of a unique family vacation.

On another note, we at JTB are happy to welcome Jordan’s new Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Mrs. Suzanne Afanah, and thank her predecessor Mrs. Maha al-Khateeb for all her efforts and hard work. We wish both of them the best of luck.

Welcome to this new edition of JTBwire.

Nayef Al-Fayez
Managing Director
