Issue No. 26- August / September 2011

Letter from the Managing Director

Dear Members and Friends,

This has been quite the eventful summer for Jordan.

With the Jerash Festival breathing life into the ancient city once again, and the Citadel Nights lighting up downtown Amman for the duration of the holy month of Ramadan, as well as the many festivals and events in Amman and its surrounding areas, Jordan has been as lively as ever.

We were happy to welcome many visitors from the GCC as they flocked to Jordan to enjoy its beautiful, moderate weather, as well as its exhilarating ambiance, among the many that have come to celebrate the Eid Al Fiter holiday in Jordan. Furthermore, in the coming weeks we are gearing up to welcome many visitors from Europe and North America – both very important source markets.

What is more, this is an exciting time for the whole country as we ready ourselves to vote for the Dead Sea, which is nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. We have experienced this excitement before, in 2007, as Jordan and the world joined to vote Petra as a New 7 Wonder of the World. We are hopeful and optimistic that we will encounter the same results with the Dead Sea and see it win this much-deserved title.

Besides our many efforts to promote the Dead Sea through traditional and print media, we have also launched the 100 Days of Giveaways social media campaign as an extension of our social media strategy for the year, and in an effort to promote Jordan online. We are proud to have been extremely successful in our social media efforts for this year, especially being ranked in the Top 25 Tourist Boards online by Influencers in Travel, ranking at #3 in the world.

In even more exciting news, Jordan will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra in 2012 with a whole year of celebrations. Petra is Jordan’s ‘Crown Jewel’ and we are putting every effort in promoting this world wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Finally, we have launched SMS voting for the Dead Sea in the New 7 Wonders campaign . The voting for the N7W campaign continues until November 11, 2011, where voting will be counted through the website,, or through SMS voting through all mobile service providers in Jordan by texting “Dead Sea” to 94089 at 6 piasters for each SMS.

Welcome to the final edition of the JTBWire for the summer of 2011!

Nayef Al-Fayez
Managing Director
