The Development Zones Commission (DZC) predicted on Saturday that tourism investments at the Dead Sea will reach JD300 million this year providing 1,500 job opportunities. A DZC statement said that over the past few months, it focused on empowering the local community and providing an investment conducive environment with appropriate infrastructure whose cost has reached around JD180 million, so far.

According to the statement, DZC officials recently met with investors and listened to their suggestions and inquiries.

The meeting, chaired by DZC Chairman Amer Majali, was in line with the DZC strategy to follow up on businesses at the development zones and to ensure their advancement.

Jordan has six development zones, operating under the DZC umbrella.

Meanwhile, Thabet Sharaida, Mafraq assistant governor, said sixty-two development projects have been implemented in Mafraq since the beginning of this year.

These include the central mega projects, which began years ago, as well as projects that began this year and are still going ahead, he explained.

Total allocations earmarked for these projects are JD17.9 million while expected expenditures for this year were put at JD16.3 million, he said.

The projects are distributed among different development sectors while 36 of them belong to the social and service sectors at a total allocation of JD14.1 million, he added.

Some of these projects have been implemented while others are underway and some are still pending study.
