Competition in partnership with On the Go and Royal Jordanian: JTB, in partnership with Royal Jordanian and On the Go tours, is giving the Wanderlust readers the opportunity to win a holiday to Jordan for two worth £2,500. This competition will appear as part of a double page advertorial in August to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Petra.
   
Print Advertising:
  • National Geographic Traveller: 1 full page. 80.000 circulation. National Geographic Traveller is a key publication to reach the JTB target group and the perfect opportunity to highlight the anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra and the re-release of Lawrence of Arabia.
  • Prospect: Full page. 32.105 circulation. This magazine covers business, finance, economics, global politics and the more cultural lifestyle side -Travel, Food & Drink and Arts. The August issue will include a special on Middle East, which will be combined with a full colour page in order to make the greatest impact. This is the perfect opportunity to reach the readers of this publication, which in effect is like a monthly version of The Economist.
  • New Statesman Magazine: A series of adverts in this weekly magazine in September to promote Wadi Rum through the 50th anniversary of the release of Lawrence of Arabia.
   
Press Trips:
  • A group of 5-8 online and print consumer and trade media (TBC) to visit Jordan to celebrate the 50th anniversary Blu Ray rerelease of Lawrence of Arabia. Media will attend a four/five day group press trip based around Lawrence of Arabia. The trip will take in Wadi Rum, Petra and Aqaba Fort.
  • Lonely Planet Traveller magazine: A destination-specific feature to tie in with the 200 year anniversary of the rediscovery of Petra. The angle is to follow in the footsteps of Johann Burckhardt, spending a night sleeping under the stars at a Bedouin camp before exploring the ancient city of Petra. Approximately 10-12 pages of editorial, including a two-page 'Make it Happen' (fact box), with lots of commissioned photography.
  • Regional newspapers, including the Irish Examiner and Birmingham Post: The itinerary will include Petra, Jerash, Madaba, Karak and Wadi Rum, with a particular focus on Lawrence of Arabia. One of the journalists on the trip is also keen to meet with a local historian in Jordan to explore her family connections with Lawrence of Arabia as her great grandfather's first cousin Colonel Pierce Joyce of Galway was one of Lawrence of Arabia's most trusted friends. The press trip will take place from 18-23 September.
   
Exhibitions or Events:
  • Edinburgh International Festival: Tareq Jundi, accompanied by his percussionist, will play in event called Truce as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. Truce has as its theme Peace in the Middle East and will take place at St Cecilia’s Hall, the oldest concert hall in Edinburgh, dating back to the eighteenth century, in Edinburgh’s Old Town. This event will be combined with a Jordan Toursim Board reception for special guests and key contacts in Scotland. This is an opportunity to showcase Jordanian talent in a prestigious festival and in one of Edinburgh’s best venues. The event is expected to attract media interest as Alan Little, the BBC international correspondent, will be speaking alongside Professor Osborne and the Jordanian Consul.
  • Cox & Kings Wanderlust Event: Advertised and featured in Wanderlust as part of JTB coop activity with Cox & Kings, this event will be held on 22 August at the London’s Royal Geographical Society, which is where the maps that Burckhardt sent back to London after rediscovering Petra are stored. The event will target 150 consumers that are already interested in Jordan – with 75 being Wanderlust readers and 75 being Cox & Kings valued customers. The event is a result of the May 15th JTB Media Event held at the RGS. Attracting consumers who are already interested in Jordan, or are frequent travellers/big spenders with Cox & Kings.
